'Unprecedented': Feds Say Hundreds Of Trump Rioters Can Expect A Knock On The Door

Federal officials on Tuesday sent a strong, if belated, message to the public about the Trump-inspired attack on the U.S. Capitol, announcing hundreds of cases would be filed against the insurgents who are part of a violent mob that includes a police officer has killed.
Michael Sherwin, acting U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, told a news conference that the U.S. Capitol was essentially a crime scene and that the FBI was working around the clock to attract the hundreds, if not thousands, of Trump supporters hunt who committed crimes and were allowed to leave the building.

"The scope and scope are unprecedented, not just in the history of the FBI, but likely in the history of the DOJ," Sherwin said.
Sherwin said more than 170 file cases had already been opened and that the number of charges would "increase geometrically".
"The spectrum of criminal behavior is really ... unmatched in any scenario we've seen with the FBI or the DOJ," Sherwin said. “We cover everything from simple violations to theft of mail, theft of digital devices inside the Capitol, attacking local officials, federal officials both outside and inside the Capitol, to stealing potential national security intelligence, and criminal murder. Only the range of cases and criminal behaviors we are looking at is truly mind-boggling. "

Steven D'Antuono of the FBI Field Office in Washington encouraged anyone who took part in the Capitol riot to come forward and volunteer information about their participation, as he said others did.
"Even after you've left D.C., if we find out you were part of the criminal activity at the Capitol, agents for our local field offices will knock on your door," he said.
