Pfizer and BioNTech Report Evidence That Their Vaccine Is Effective Against COVID-19 Variant
Vaccine partners Pfizer (NYSE: PFE) and BioNTech (NASDAQ: BNTX) today released information providing new evidence that their COVID-19 vaccine is effective against the B.1.1.7 variant, originally detected in the UK has been and is believed to be more contagious than the original strain of coronavirus. Pfizer and BioNTech conducted a laboratory study exposing blood serum from subjects who had received the company's BNT162b2 vaccine to pseudoviruses that carried either the spike protein of the original Wuhan strain or that of the B.1.1.7 variant . In the study, researchers tested sera from 16 subjects - eight from adults between 18 and 55 years old and eight from older subjects.
