House spokeswoman Nancy Pelosi railed against President Donald Trump on Thursday evening, calling him a "psychopathic nut" according to a report by Politico.
The California Democrat dropped the comment during a call by the House Democratic leadership Thursday night, multiple sources told the outlet.
The Pelosi press office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Insider.
The criticism comes as Trump refuses to recognize President-elect Joe Biden's victory and continues to question the election results. His campaign did not win any of the nearly two dozen lawsuits filed in several states over unsubstantiated allegations of election fraud.
Trump's legal team, led by the President's personal attorney Rudy Giuliani, held a press conference Thursday in which they put forward unsubstantiated theories about ballot papers and voting irregularities.
Pelosi congratulated Biden on his win almost two weeks ago after every television station launched the race for the former vice president.
She meets the elected president for the first time since the election on Friday afternoon, along with Chuck Schumer, the chairman of the Senate minority, who is also a Democrat. Biden has urged Congress to act quickly and approve a new stimulus package before the year ends to fight the coronavirus pandemic and help millions of Americans who are struggling financially.
Earlier this week, House Democrats nominated Pelosi to speak again at the next congressional session. She stated the next two years in the top position would be her last and reiterated her 2018 commitment to limit her tenure to four years.
