As Mariah Carey's make-up artist, there is no one whom we trust more than Kristofer Buckle for all of our questions about holiday glamor. Carey is practically the queen of Christmas, making Buckle the queen of the makeup artist of Christmas. This year we might spend the holidays with other people or in a different place than usual, but one thing can stay the same: we can still do everything with our beauty look.
To help you get your best, most festive vacation beat yet (even if it's just for Zoom), Buckle shared his tips for recreating Carey's famous soft glam makeup on himself.
On his Top Holiday Makeup Tips
It is more important than ever to prepare and set your makeup based on face masks. Not only does this give you a smooth application, it also ensures that your beat looks flawless for hours. One of his favorite skincare products that he uses with his clients to prep them before they do makeup is Emepelle Serum ($ 175).
"I also recommend customers use it on its own because good makeup starts with great skin," said Buckle. "Using a great makeup spray will add durability to your makeup to protect it from wearing off from face coverings and masks. [The] reduced need for touch-ups means you don't touch your face, which can lead to bacteria and viruses can spread. ""
On vacation it looks - and 1 it will never use it with Mariah Carey
You can't go wrong with a festive red lip (his brand has a Cashmere Briefs Longwear Lipstick in Dare ($ 14) that are perfect for winter), but if you want to spice it up, Buckle recommends adding some shine lend to the eye. "I love a shiny gold eyeshadow that is swept over the eyelids with a soft lash and a matte red lip with glowing skin."
For Carey's signature makeup look on vacation, he's always inspired by 1940s glamor. "The holidays are a time of tradition and memories, so picking up a glowing, flushed cheek with a warm caramel eyeshadow and coral lip that nods to the classic Vargas pinup girls of the 1940s always works."
You may or may not have noticed that Carey rarely rocks a red lip, but it's true: "I use coral because Mariah usually wears a lot of red at Christmas time but doesn't like a red lip so coral gives you that pop of color", said Buckle.
No matter what makeup look you want to wear on this vacation, just remember that you can't go wrong with a little bit of shine. Then curl your hair in big, glamorous waves and you have a full Mariah Carey beauty moment.
