'Jeopardy!' executive producer becomes overnight sensation after COVID forces him to host
After leaving Jeopardy! Legendary Ken Jennings after his six-week stint as a guest host, executive producer Mike Richards stepped in to fill the shoes of the late, great Alex Trebek. Though danger! Several high profile innkeepers are on the line, including CNN's Anderson Cooper, Today's Savannah Guthrie, and Green Bay Packers’s Aaron Rodgers. Many had to be postponed, as Richards explained on Monday when he first stepped on stage as a host.
"I'm hosting today and for the next two weeks to keep the world's biggest quiz show going," said Richards. “We have some great hosts who I can't wait for you to see. But with the COVID outbreak here in LA, people have understandably been a little reluctant to shoot. As a producer, it's my job to literally live the mantra, the show has to go on. So let's do what Alex did 8,244 times. Let's play Jeopardy! and prove that nothing can stop this show. "
Danger! Fans immediately went to Richards, and many called for him as a permanent host.

On Tuesday, Richards started his second day as an innkeeper with a warm greeting to Trebek.
“Working with Alex was even better than you could have imagined. His intensity for the show, his humor, his friendliness, but most impressively his love for his wife Jean and his children. He was everything you could hope for and more, ”said Richards. “He was an idol of mine and I will work every day to live up to the example he set.
