Ivanka Trump’s Tree-Planting Boast Is Chopped Down By Angry Twitter Users
Critics on Twitter accused Ivanka Trump of washing her father's anti-environment administration green after voicing her support for a global conservation initiative.
Donald Trump's daughter and advisor tweeted Thursday that she was "proud to support the signing of an executive order by the President that sets up the United States Interagency Council for 1 trillion trees, as part of the World Economic Forum's project to reach 1 trillion worldwide by 2030 To plant trees.
Despite questions about whether mass tree planting is actually good for the environment, Ivanka Trump has been heavily criticized for the Trump White House attack on green issues. The president has opted for fossil fuels and pursued an environmental agenda that removed dozens of rules to protect natural resources.
Other critics were skeptical of the timing of the announcement - less than a month before the 2020 election - saying it was just a cynical ploy to appeal to environmentally conscious voters.
