How to Make the Holidays Merry & Bright At Home, According to Tory Burch

While designer, entrepreneur, and philanthropist Tory Burch's life may look a lot more glamorous and exciting than our own on any given day, this year she found joy in the same things we all have: home, family, the outdoors, and a few favorite board games. And this year their holidays will be as unusual as ours. The Christmas tree is being decorated via Zoom and being creative with new games and activities to enjoy with her family in their Southampton home.
"I'm currently working on the 500-piece Great Shapes puzzle from our Seed Box," says Burch, referring to the gift box her foundation curates, which contains products from women-owned companies that are supported by nonprofits. “It was created by the entrepreneurs Jena Wolfe and Rachel Hochhauser. We also play board games like scrabble and backgammon and I am learning to play chess ... very frustrating. "
While brushing up on her pickleball skills - a new favorite sport - and putting together a fabulous playlist for a Zoom family party and festive nights by the fire, the designer is in the process of launching her latest collection that is all about the Celebrating the Holidays A special home - something we could all use help with as we were at home for most of 2020. This new collection of serving items, shoes, clothing, jewelry, and more will enhance our tiny gatherings and virtual cocktail parties with memories, and there's always a good reason for us to go all out and get dressed with a beautiful table.

"Holidays celebrate everything that reminds us to be with our family and friends," says Burch. “I hope it inspires people to travel and get dressed in their minds even when they stay home. This collection combines retro prints and classic pieces, embroidered tunics, Fair Isle sweaters, timeless handbags and vintage-inspired sneakers. "
Luckily, two of Burch's favorite aspects of celebrating the holidays - sitting around the dining table with the family and an afternoon of exercising - will still be part of the experience this year, but one of her favorite things to do during the vacation is setting the table festive and joyful. She says her new home collection is designed to be paired with the heirloom items you already need to create something unique for you. Her favorite items to combine with the new collection are jewelry that she collects on her travels, such as bud vases, all kinds of ceramics and sentimental items that bring a special sense of value to the table.

“I love setting tables in unusual ways - and working on flowers and tables is therapeutic,” says Burch. "I always encourage people to try things that seem imperfect. It will always have a divine and unexpected result."
It seems more important than ever to remember the "giving back" aspect of the holidays, and Burch likes to do that through her foundation of the same name. The Tory Burch Foundation was founded in 2009 to give aspiring women entrepreneurs the opportunity to have everything they need to thrive. The foundation works with Bank of America to offer affordable credit and Goldman Sachs for business and management education, while creating a network of mentors and cheerleaders who encourage each other to pursue their dreams. The annual Seed Box not only helps to support the companies with the products curated in the gift box, but 100% of the proceeds support the entire foundation.
"There are also many ways you can support women-owned businesses in your community," says Burch. "Buying gift cards, ordering online, writing reviews, and sharing their products on your social media channels are some ideas that could really help small businesses." These ideas may seem small, but a big impact can be made if few people see an Instagram post and this year choose to look there for stuffers or a loved one. And while Tory Burch certainly no longer runs a small business, she doesn't lose sight of her humble beginnings in her kitchen and does her best to make the most of the opportunities available to her.

While you can find Burch at the table shown over Christmas, where she has already spent much of the year, and we are at the same table we've worked, ate and homeschooled at since this year, it's no Sorry for wearing the same casual set you've been wearing since March. Her new apparel collection - for both Tory Burch and Tory Burch Sport - promotes comfortable, stylish clothing with elegant details for a dazzling vacation at home.

"This vacation is all about comfortable, effortless parts." She says. "Light clothes, our Tory Sport track pants, cozy knitwear and a great pair of earrings give everything you wear a lot of flair!"
