Gunman hides in woman’s trunk, shoots at her as she enters women’s clinic, Texas cops say
Texas police are looking for a man who they say shot a woman while she went to a reproductive health clinic on Saturday.
The man was hiding in the woman's trunk as she drove to the Alamo Women's Reproductive Center, police said, WOAI reported.
When she arrived around 8:30 a.m., the man jumped out of the trunk and started shooting. He missed the woman, but hit several windows in the clinic, according to KSAT, the police said. Officials called the facility an "abortion clinic".
A person protesting outside the building pulled out a gun and shot the shooter to protect the woman, police said, KENS reported.
The shooter then ran away. The police aren't sure if the man was hit by the bullet.
The woman was taken to police headquarters and, according to KENS, was shaken but unharmed. The protester has a license to carry a firearm, police said.
Officials don't believe the clinic was the target and no one was injured inside, KSAT reported.
According to WOAI, the shooter's weapon was found at the scene of the crime along with an item of clothing.
Police used a helicopter and K-9 units to find the suspect, but he's still at large, the outlet reported.
According to KSAT, the shooter knew the woman and the police were investigating the incident as a domestic violence case.
