Florida Driver Busts Through Gates, Leaps Over Drawbridge As It Opens
In one scene captured by multiple traffic cameras, a driver slammed through the traffic arms of a drawbridge in Florida and then made the dangerous jump as the bridge opened.
The vehicle was briefly airborne on Monday on the Main Street Bridge in Daytona Beach, which crosses the Halifax River:
NBC local station WESH said the traffic arms need to be replaced and that police believe they have identified the driver. The gate also appeared to damage the vehicle's windshield, but it is not known whether the driver was injured.
The drawbridge has seen its share of stunts; just last month a motorcycle made the same jump.
"It's absolutely illegal, that's why the rails are there," said Bonnie Frank, Florida Safety Council spokesperson, after jumping to Fox35 in Orlando this week. "You are not only risking yourself, you are risking all the other people who are also on this bridge."
