Donald Trump on NBC News’ Kristen Welker: ‘She’s Always Been Terrible and Unfair’

President Donald Trump took to Twitter Saturday afternoon to criticize NBC newscaster Kristen Welker, who will host the final presidential debate on October 22nd.
"She was always terrible and unfair, just like most fake news reporters, but I'll play the game anyway," Trump tweeted. “People know! How is Steve Scully? "
The president's remarks are in direct contrast to Welker's praise from one of his senior campaigners. “Look, I think I have a very high opinion of Kristen Welker. I think she will do an excellent job as moderator for the third debate, ”said Jason Miller, senior advisor to Trump's campaign. "I think she's a journalist whose approach is very fair. And I think she will be a very good choice for this third debate."
Trump's tweet was in response to his son Donald Trump Jr., who quoted the latest story by New York Post journalist Jon Levine about how Welker maintains "deep democratic ties". "Oops! Here we go again, ”tweeted Trump Jr., adding the eye roll emoji.
Trump was referring to C-SPAN Political Editor Steve Scully, who was suspended from his position as Political Editor at C-SPAN on Thursday after admitting to lying about hacking his Twitter.
Welker is currently the White House correspondent for NBC News and co-host of Weekend Today with Peter Alexander. A graduate of Harvard University, she joined NBC News as a California-based correspondent in 2010. In 2011 she was promoted to her current White House correspondent position.
Trump's public criticism of Welker comes just a day after he made multiple comments on NBC's Savannah Guthrie, who hosted his town hall on NBC Thursday. At his rally on Friday night in Macon, Georgia, Trump said the questions Guthrie asked him about QAnon, white supremacy and his tax returns were "unfair." "Everyone found it so inappropriate," said Trump. "Savannah - it was like her face, the anger, the madness."
