Cardi B addresses Birkin bag criticism: 'Y'all don't do this to these white celebrities'
Cardi B had a few things to do after noticing a racist comment criticizing her and other women in hip hop for having Hermès Birkin bags.
The rapper "WAP" shared a four-minute video on Instagram on Monday in response to a tweet mentioning "rappers" by questioning the authenticity of their Birkin bags and saying the women are "reducing the value" the wallet.
A Birkin is a designer wallet from Hermès named after British actress Jane Birkin. They're notoriously exclusive and hard to come by. They sell for $ 9,000 to $ 500,000.
Cardi B, 28, set the record clear, noting that she had picked up four Birkin bags from the Hermès store on Monday and added to her collection of more than 20 bags: so "don't even try it," she warned .
She addressed the double standard of the comment: "Why do you ask rappers if they could get a bag from the Hermès store? You don't do that to these white celebrities ... So why is that you?" 'have to ask us all? "
"We start with trends and when you think we're devaluing (expletively). No, we're adding value," said Cardi B. "And another thing is why, when a black girl, why when a Hispanic girl has a bag did you have to question her? 'Oh, is it a fake?' or 'She's a cheater.' ""
She went on to say that even if you didn't have the means to buy a designer bag, it was fine.
"Let me tell you something, if you're a normal girl, you don't have to break your neck to have a birkin. A birkin doesn't make you," Cardi B said, adding that people don't have to wear clothing labels to "keep up".

Offset also went to Instagram to share a photo with Cardi with a table full of Birkins.
"Stop letting people on the internet tell you who can get a Birkin at the store and how many Birkin you can get," he wrote the post. "Black people who have access to luxury shouldn't be a debate ... by the way, hip hop starts with the trends!"
The Grammy-winning artist continued to refute the idea that she and other rappers are stealing the value of luxury wallets, noting that, on the contrary, fashion houses have grown in popularity because of mentions in songs. Cardi has mentioned both Christian Louboutin and Balenciaga in their songs "Bodak Yellow" and "I Like It".
"Actually, we're adding value because ... when we mention brands in hip hop, they go up (expletive)," she said, referring to how her single Christian Louboutin increased after mentioning the red bottom shoes. According to a November 2017 Business of Fashion report, Cardi B's texts saw a 217% increase in its search for the designer shoe.
She added that when husband Offset's group Migos released their song "Versace" in 2013 they saw everyone with "Versace shirts, Versace glasses, Versace pants, Versace socks".
Birkin bags have become a topic of discussion on social media after rapper Saweetie crashed friend Quavo's Instagram Live on Oct. 22, saying, "If he doesn't get you Birkin, if he doesn't pay for your bills, then then throw that (expletive) back into the streets. "
Rapper My Type's comments went viral and people were discussing the designer bag.
This isn't the first time Birkin bags have been in the spotlight in hip hop. In July, Saweetie's reaction to receiving two Birkin bags from Quavo for her birthday went viral. That same month, Cardi B defended buying a Birkin bag for her 2-year-old daughter Kulture for her birthday after an onslaught of criticism. In 2017, rapper Drake announced that he had bought the designer handbag for years for "the woman I end up with," and fans got a peek at the collection in April when the artist was featured on Architectural Digest. In 2018, Kylie Jenner gave fans a tour of her "wallet closet" and found that her favorite series was the "Hermés series," which she described as a "great investment."
